This is pretty significant news for the New York Jets.

The New York Jets have positioned themselves to have a tremendous offseason, as they are loaded with cap space and have stocked up on NFL Draft capital.

The Jets completed a couple of major trades back at the deadline — sending Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts and Quinnen Williams to the Dallas Cowboys — to land five draft choices, two of which will manifest this year.

As a result, New York owns four selections over the first two rounds this April, and now, the Jets will likely be adding even more assets to their treasure trove of draft picks.

Over the Cap has projected New York to land a pair of compensatory fifth-round selections this spring thanks to Gang Green losing edge rusher Haason Reddick and offensive tackle Morgan Moses in free agency last offseason.

While two Day 3 picks may no sound like a whole lot, it is actually very significant in the grand scheme of things.

Why? Because it provides the Jets will even more ammunition in potential trades. New York could include the fifth-rounders as part of a larger deal to move up in the draft, or possibly even use them as throw-ins in a trade for a player.

Should the Jets ultimately reap those two extra fifth-round picks, they will end up with four fifth-rounders and a hefty 14 draft choices overall.

And remember: New York owns three first-round draft selections in 2027, so the Jets have set themselves up very nicely in this rebuild.

Of course, New York will actually need to make good on the picks, but this will represent a golden opportunity for the Jets to shape their roster for the next several years, and with all of the cap room Gang Green has, it could be a very prosperous offseason in the Meadowlands.

Obviously, Jets fans will exercise caution, as not a whole lot has gone right for the franchise over the last decade-and-a-half ... or just in general. But there is no question that general manager Darren Mougey has done a phenomenal job of positioning New York for long-term success.

Whether or not the Jets actually achieve it remains to be seen.

New York has not made the playoffs in 15 years, representing the longest active drought in the league.
