No matter what time of year it is, it always seems like the New York Jets are the topic of discussion in some way shape or form.
Gang Green can only say “next year is our year” so many times before that saying turns Jets fans into the people who cried wolf.
So the best thing to do? Tear it down.
It’s not something the franchise or the fans want to hear, because what version of the rebuild is this?
They went from Geno Smith to Ryan Fitzpatrick to Josh McCown to Sam Darnold to Zach Wilson to Aaron Rodgers to now Justin Fields at quarterback.
And what do they have to show for it? Fourteen consecutive missed playoff appearances, soon-to-be 15, and six different head coaches.
That’s why with the trade deadline approaching in a few weeks, teams are inquiring with the Jets to see which players are available.
We already reported that teams have already been asking about running back Breece Hall and Pro Bowl defensive end Jermaine Johnson, but now that list has grown according to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz.
Among the two that were already mentioned, the Jets have received calls for defensive end Will McDonald IV, Pro Bowl outside linebacker Quincy Williams, cornerback Michael Carter II, and wide receiver Allen Lazard.
Schultz relayed a message from one of his sources that coach Aaron Glenn is attempting to figure out who are “his guys.”
“One source told me: ‘There’s an element of trying to figure out who are Glenn’s guys and who aren’t. Remember when Detroit suddenly traded [T.J.] Hockenson? A building block from the last regime is not going to be a guaranteed building block in this one.’”
It’ll be rather intriguing to see who are “Glenn Guys” and who aren’t. The Jets have been telling teams that it’ll “take a lot” for Johnson, and if that’s the case, the same should probably be the same for McDonald.
McDonald, the former 15th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft is currently having a down season, but last year, he racked up 10.5 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, three pass deflections and two forced fumbles.
Glenn is a noted defensive guy, as he was the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions for several years, and was a Pro Bowl cornerback for the Jets in eight seasons.
The NFL Trade Deadline is at 4:00 p.m. ET on November 4th, and it just may be the start of a new era in Jets history.
