The New York Jets released Aaron Rodgers and signed Justin Fields.

Shortly after Aaron Glenn signed a five-year contract with the New York Jets, he met with Aaron Rodgers and told the future Hall of Famer he would be released.

The Jets signed Justin Fields and Rodgers signed with Fields' old team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

New York went 3-14 this season and Fields was benched for Tyrod Taylor. Meanwhile, Rodgers and the Steelers made the playoffs.

"I would've kept him," a longtime personnel executive said this week, via ESPN. "I thought it was a mistake [to release him]. Were they a playoff [team] with him? Probably not, but they would've won a few more games. Without him, they were terrible and lost all credibility."

Rodgers finished the 2025 season with 3,322 passing yards and 24 passing touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Fields, Taylor and Brady Cook combined for 2,777 passing yards and 14 touchdown passes.

The Jets have the second overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. They are expected to draft a QB and release Fields, who signed a two-year, $40 million contract last offseason.

Rodgers could retire from the NFL this offseason. He's 42 and didn't play well against the Houston Texans in the Steelers' Wild Card loss. The NFL legend becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

The Jets have been a walking disaster for years. Many Jets fans believe Glenn should be fired since his team made putrid NFL history twice this season. New York is the first team in NFL history to not record a defensive interception and lose five straight games by 23 or more points within a single season.

If New York struggles again next season, Glenn could be fired. For now, though, his job is safe.

As for Rodgers, it will be intriguing to see what he decides to do. He signed with the Steelers to play for Mike Tomlin, who has stepped down as Pittsburgh's head coach.

If Rodgers retires, he finishes his NFL career with 66,274 passing yards and 527 passing touchdowns with the Green Bay Packers, Jets and Steelers.
