The New York Jets have traded back into the first round for their third selection and landed a weapon for their offense.
The New York Jets made their third selection in the first round after trading back up, sending the 33rd and 179th overall picks to the San Francisco 49ers for the 30th overall pick.
With their third pick of the night, the Jets added a weapon to their offense with wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr.
Cooper was a top weapon for the National Champion Indiana Hoosiers in the 2025 season. He proved to be one of Fernando Mendoza's favorite weapons throughout their incredible run.
He was a productive receiver for the Hoosiers throughout his three seasons. In 2023, he hauled in 18 receptions for 267 yards and two touchdowns across nine games.
He improved in 2024, finishing with 28 receptions for 594 yards and seven touchdowns. Cooper added 23 yards and a touchdown on two carries.
Cooper's breakout season came in 2025, as he had 69 receptions for 937 yards and 13 touchdowns, along with 74 yards and a touchdown on three carries on the ground.
Grace Hollars/IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn ImagesHe is an explosive weapon who is joining a Jets offense that is adding talent quickly. New York has the established receiver in Garrett Wilson and used two of their first-round selections to add Cooper and Kenyon Sadiq.
Wilson had three 1,000-yard seasons to start his career, but was unable to get a fourth straight in 2025, as he appeared in only seven games. With him healthy and the additions of Cooper and Sadiq, New York has some intriguing weapons to build around.
Their other selection in the first round was edge rusher David Bailey with the second overall pick.
It was an aggressive draft for general manager Darren Mougey, who is looking to turn the team around after a disappointing 3-14 season.
New York is adding a ton of young talent at key positions, which could set them up for success once they find their long-term answer at quarterback.
