NFL Analyst Explains Why New York Jets 'Must' Re-Sign Breece Hall cover image

New York Jets RB Breece Hall becomes a free agent this offseason.

Breece Hall is widely considered the best offensive player on the New York Jets

The veteran playmaker becomes a free agent this offseason and Nick Faria of Jets X-Factor believes the Jets "must" re-sign Hall.

"The debate surrounding Hall is quite simple," Faria wrote. "While he is not a top-five running back in the league, the Jets do not have a quality replacement ready to step in and replicate his skill set for their much-maligned offense.

"The 2026 franchise tag allotment for running backs is projected to be worth over $14 million. That number is certainly large for a single year, but the Jets have cap space to use. Until they have a quality quarterback or a second receiving threat, New York must have Hall back to stabilize their offense. They simply don’t have a reliable in-house replacement plan."

Hall finished the 2025 season with 1,065 rushing yards, four rushing touchdowns, 36 receptions, 350 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown.

The Jets were a walking disaster this season. They won only three games. New York was 29th in the NFL in points per game and 31st in points per game allowed.

Under first-year head coach Aaron Glenn, the Jets became the first team in NFL history to not record a defensive interception and lose five straight games by 23 or more points within a single season.

Even though Glenn's first year in New York was a disaster, he will not be fired. The Jets signed Glenn to a five-year contract last offseason.

"I understand what everybody on the outside is saying," Glenn said. "I'm going to take all those arrows, and that's OK, because I do know this: It's going to turn. And I'm confident in that. ... Just trust me. I know it's hard to say, but trust me and have faith in what we're doing."

It will be intriguing to see if the Jets re-sign Hall, who has spent his entire NFL career with New York. The Jets have the second overall pick in the 2026 draft. They are widely expected to select a quarterback.

Hall, who turns 25 in May, has 18 rushing touchdowns and nine receiving touchdowns with the Jets.
