The New York Jets' potential nightmare 2026 season scenario has been revealed.
The New York Jets went 3-14 in Year 1 of the Aaron Glenn era. They became the first team in NFL history to not record a defensive interception and lose five straight games by 23 or more points within a single season.
New York will have a new starting QB next season, Geno Smith. The Jets acquired Smith from the Las Vegas Raiders this offseason. Smith, of course, began his NFL career in New York.
On paper, the Jets' offense actually doesn't look that bad. Smith, Breece Ball, Garrett Wilson and rookie Kenyon Sadiq could do some damage, which would be a nightmare 2026 season scenario for Gang Green, says Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report.
"Geno Smith and a talented offensive core do just enough to keep a team in desperate need of a new potential franchise quarterback out of a primo draft slot, forcing New York to contemplate trading away its three first-rounders for a roll of the dice atop Round 1," Gagnon wrote.
In his first stint with the Jets, Smith went 12-18 as a starter. He threw for 5,962 yards, 28 touchdowns and 36 interceptions. It wasn't pretty.
However, Smith is older and wiser now and believes he's going to prove his critics in New York wrong.
"I just felt like I was back where I belonged, man. It felt special," Smith said. "When I was drafted there, my goal was to play my entire career for the Jets and one day retire as a Jet. And although it didn't go exactly as planned, somehow, some way we got back here and I'm eager to make things right if I can."
Smith enters next season with 22,168 passing yards, 124 passing touchdowns and 89 career interceptions in the NFL. His starting record is 42-56-0.
In the 2026 NFL Draft, the Jets did pretty well. They took David Bailey, Sadiq, Omar Cooper Jr., D'Angelo Ponds, Darrell Jackson Jr., Cade Klubnik, Anez Cooper and VJ Payne.
