Future Hall of Fame quarterback Russell Wilson is reportedly weighing whether to continue playing in the NFL or move to the TV side.
Wilson spoke about it earlier in the week, suggesting he has an offer on the table from the New York Jets but is weighing his options.
At this stage of his career, there's no debate that Wilson wouldn't be a starter on this roster. Barring something drastic happening, it seems all but certain that Geno Smith is going to be the guy for the Jets, and the coaching staff has said that plenty of times now.
Despite that reality, others believe there's an opportunity for Wilson to start if he signs with the Jets, with some even suggesting he could be the one to get the Jets over their playoff hump.
“Wilson’s decorated career immediately stands out. A Super Bowl champion with 10 Pro Bowl selections, he brings the pedigree teams look for in a QB1. That said, Wilson is now 37 and well removed from his prime Seattle years. Still, he proved in 2025 that he can produce. In a loss to the Dallas Cowboys, Wilson threw for over 400 yards and three touchdowns. However, a costly overtime interception highlighted the inconsistency that can come with a late-stage career.
"He also gave the Pittsburgh Steelers their best quarterback play since Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement—admittedly a low bar, but still a meaningful sign that he can contribute. Wilson can likely play another year or two at a competitive level. If the Jets want to end their nearly two-decade playoff drought, he could give them a legitimate shot,” Jobe Morrison of The Big Lead wrote.
Not to discredit anything Wilson has done in his career, but I just don't see how anybody can feel confident with what he's done over the past few years, at least to the point where we're suggesting that he has an opportunity to take a team that hasn't made the playoffs in a very long time back to the postseason.
Unfortunately, I don't think Wilson is that guy, and it doesn't even look like it's going to be an option, as the TV stuff might be more enticing to the former Seattle Seahawks legend.
