The New York Jets have been busy in free agency.

The New York Jets are signing a 33-year-old defensive tackle.

According to Mike Garafolo, the Jets are signing David Onyemata to a one-year, $10.5 million deal, with $9.65 million guaranteed.

Onyemata spent the last three years with the Atlanta Falcons. He appeared in all 17 games last season, putting up one sack, 29 solo tackles, seven tackles for loss and two QB hits.

Onyemata has been in the NFL since 2016. He has played for the New Orleans Saints and Falcons. The Lagos native has 31 sacks, 208 solo tackles, 49 tackles for loss and 86 QB hits in his career.

The Jets went 3-14 in Year 1 of the Aaron Glenn era. They became the first team in NFL history to not record a defensive interception and lose five straight games by 23 or more points within a single season.

New York fired Steve Wilks as DC during the 2025 season. Brian Duker is the new DC, but Glenn will call defensive plays next season.

"First and foremost is how I'm going to be with the defense and I will be the playcaller. To me, play-calling is my superpower," Glenn said. "I did it four years in Detroit and, man, just look at the maturation of how we improved every year and how I improved as a playcaller. I really missed doing that, and I think it's a huge part of helping us become the team that I and Mouge [GM Darren Mougey] see and that [owner] Woody [Johnson] sees us becoming."

Glenn, for the first time publicly, also explained his rationale for going in a different direction after moving on from Steve Wilks late last season.

"I think that's one of the mistakes that I had last year," Glenn said. "You hire a coordinator and bring in the guys you feel comfortable with. That hasn't changed, but man, there were a lot of conversations between me and each coach to make sure there was synergy between me and that coach. So I feel very comfortable with that."

The Jets have the second pick in this year's NFL Draft. They are expected to draft a QB.
