It's always nice to be the best at something as an organization, unless it's what the Jets just became the leaders in.

This offseason, the New York Jets have a legitimate opportunity to get better. Not quite to Super Bowl contender status, but objectively better.

They've already taken a few steps to do just that. In free agency thus far, by signing players like Minkah Fitzpatrick, Nahshon Wright, Demario Davis, Joseph Ossai, and others, they've seemingly constructed a much better team than last season.

It won't be hard to do, considering last season's Jets team was historically bad both offensively and defensively, but the sentiment remains that they will be better.

The organization hasn't even gotten to what will be the best part of their offseason, which is the NFL draft. Not only do they have nine total picks at their disposal, but two of those picks fall within the first 16 overall, with the 2nd and 16th.

Despite the glimmer of hope for the franchise, you can never fully move forward to success without acknowledging the mistakes of the past, and those mistakes became even more glaringly obvious with this weekend's latest news.

Jets Now Hold Longest Playoff Drought in North American Sports

This past weekend in the NHL, the Buffalo Sabres ended a 14-year playoff drought thanks to the New York Rangers defeating the Detroit Red Wings 4-1. Their 14-year drought was the longest in NHL history.

Well, thanks to their city-mates, the New York Jets now hold one of the most embarrassing titles in sports. The Jets now hold the longest playoff drought in North American sports, which now sits at 15-years.

The last time they made the playoffs was back in 2010, when Rex Ryan was at the helm and Mark Sanchez was under center in a year they made it all the way to the AFC Championship game.

That seems like a distant memory because it is. Since then, the first iPad was released, we've seen four separate presidencies, and Gangnam Style both took over and left us all the same.

The Jets have constantly made the wrong decision on head coaches, front office personnel, and player personnel as well over that span.

They have some big decisions coming up over this year and next when it comes to key positions like quarterback, which could alter whether this drought ends or continues to extend.
