The New York Jets are currently in the middle of one of their most important offseasons to date. With a wealth of resources, both in draft capital and in cap space, it's imperative that the Jets make the most of the first year in their rebuild.
After day one of free agency, it seems like they may even be slightly ahead of schedule.
As the NFL's legal tampering period opened up, the Jets agreed to contracts with loads of defensive players, many of whom will start on Aaron Glenn's defense next season.
Today, it was announced that one of the other massive holes they had to fill at QB had also been taken care of after New York traded for ex-Jet QB Geno Smith to return to the Meadowlands.
The latest news for New York shifts back to the defensive side of the ball, and this is one of their more intriguing pickups so far. They just landed one of last season's best CBs.

Mandatory Credit: Mike Dinovo-Imagn ImagesIt was announced today that the New York Jets are signing ex-Chicago Bears CB Nahshon Wright to a 1-year $5.5 million contract. That is an excellent price to pay for a player like Wright.
Last season with Chicago, Wright was a part of a Bears secondary that led the NFL in total interceptions, as he had five just on his own. His performance led to him being selected last season as a Pro Bowler from the NFC.
This is something the Jets are in desperate need of, as their entire secondary last season set an NFL record by recording zero total interceptions.
Wright did struggle at times to stay on his man and had games where he would get targeted quite frequently, so by no means should Jets fans expect to be getting an All-Pro caliber lockdown corner. He will turn the ball over when needed, though.
That is partially why this is such a good contract to sign him to. Low risk, very high reward. Mougey has been putting on an absolute clinic this offseason.
Wright had a few mediocre seasons with the Dallas Cowboys before landing with Chicago and having a career season. At 6'4, 200lbs, and wiry, Wright is exactly the type of CB Aaron Glenn has had success with in the past.
Between Minkah Fitzpatrick and Nahshon Wright, look for the Jets' interception total to look a little different next year.
