Veteran QB Tyrod Taylor becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason and many New York Jets fans want him back to mentor the team's new QB.
The Jets have the second overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and are expected to draft a QB.
During Radio Row, Taylor told Jake Asman that he would love to return to the Jets.
Taylor, who turns 37 in August, appeared in six games for the Jets this season. He had 779 passing yards, five passing touchdowns and five interceptions. The veteran completed 59.7% of his passes and went 1-3 as a starter.
Taylor took over for Justin Fields, who started nine games before getting benched after the Jets lost to the New England Patriots. New York is widely expected to release Fields this offseason.
Taylor has been in the NFL since 2011. He has played for the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Chargers, Houston Texans, New York Giants and Jets. He has 13,033 passing yards and 73 passing touchdowns in his career.
According to Tony Pauline of Essentially Sports, New York would like to re-sign Taylor.
"I'm told the Jets have let it be known they'd like to bring Taylor back in 2026 in a similar role to the one he manned last season," Pauline wrote. "Taylor started four games in the middle of the season, playing reasonably well before being sidelined with injury in December. He orchestrated one of the Jets' three victories, beating the Atlanta Falcons, and he kept his team in the game earlier in the year against Tampa Bay, a game the Jets lost on the final drive.
"Taylor has been a dependable backup in the league for most of his 15-year career, except for a three-year starting stint with the Buffalo Bills beginning in 2015. He finished with a record of 22-20 over that span. Despite their hopes to keep Taylor, those close to the situation believe it will be tough to re-sign him, as there will be a market for the quarterback and the Jets will have to overpay to keep him."
It will be fascinating to see if the Jets re-sign Taylor this offseason. He reportedly has a close relationship with head coach Aaron Glenn.
