The New York Jets are seemingly bringing Aaron Glenn back for a second season as head coach, but that decision deserves far more questions than it’s getting.

Look, I’ve said keeping Glenn makes sense, but what has he done?

Despite that, according to Ian Rapoport, the Jets are sticking with Glenn while preparing for other changes.

“The Jets are bringing back Aaron Glenn for a second season as head coach. The question is, how significant will changes be to his staff? Glenn already has fired his defensive coordinator Steve Wilks.

“Homework on replacements has already begun, with a search to follow as soon as the season ends. Changes to the rest of the staff are certainly possible. Glenn has said on multiple occasions the past two weeks that he was going to evaluate his staff. Finding an answer at QB -- again  -- will be a top offseason priority for the Jets, who have five first-round picks over the next two drafts.”

While Glenn will be back, the Jets immediately follow that up by acknowledging there will be changes, a coordinator search, and yet another quarterback problem.

However, Glenn wasn’t handed the best hand, and that’s important to consider.

This roster was viewed as talented enough to compete, in some sense, especially on defense. Instead, the Jets once again fell flat, and now Steve Wilks is gone after one year.

That matters because Wilks wasn’t some random hire. Glenn wanted him. Glenn wanted Justin Fields. Fields won’t be on the team next season.

The quarterback situation only complicates things more than usual. The Jets once again don’t have an answer, and once again they’re telling us all to wait until the offseason.

Having five first-round picks over the next two drafts is great, but it’s also not a guarantee.

If Glenn is on the hot seat at all, should he really be part of the decision-making process for the next quarterback?

Keeping Glenn feels less like a smart move and more like Woody Johnson not wanting to admit to another mistake. If next season doesn’t show anything, Glenn’s seat will be hot entering his third season.
