As the New York Jets approach Week 10, there's reason to believe that the Week 8 win ahead of the bye could’ve had a nice little impact on what the Jets look like moving forward.
Winning a game without Garrett Wilson is very impressive, but it also doesn't excuse some of the mess we've seen from the Jets throughout the year. At this point, New York isn't a playoff team, and it has to be smart in what it does.
I think the Jets did what they had to do on Tuesday, although I was a bit shocked about some of the moves.
Reports indicated that Garrett Wilson will return to practice, according to head coach Aaron Glenn. I obviously don't have any problem with Wilson coming back to practice and playing in games, but I also want to address some other factors that could impact that.
“He’s going to practice this week, so I’m looking forward to him getting out and practicing,” Glenn said, per the NY Post. “Let’s see how that goes during the week. I don’t want to place too much on him right now, but I’m excited about him getting out there and being able to practice.”
If Wilson has anything wrong with him, there's no chance I'm taking any risk in him reinjuring himself or further hurting the problem.
If there's one thing the Jets have to watch out for over much of the next few years, it's keeping Wilson happy and healthy.
Playing him if he isn't completely good would be malpractice by this organization, and while I don't think that's the case, I still want the organization to factor it in.
The Jets will take on a decent Browns team, despite a squad that sits at 2-6, on Sunday.
I know the Browns haven't played well for a lot of the year, and while the Jets haven't either, I still think Cleveland's a lot better.
Wilson will be needed, and it seems like players on the roster understand that.
However, I just hope the Jets aren't looking for short-term enjoyment at the expense of something nice in the long term.
“We’ve definitely missed him, but guys have done a great job of stepping up, like Tyler Johnson last week,” Jets guard Joe Tippmann said. “But having him back … he’s a weapon in the offense, so it’d be huge.”
