Outside of the obvious with the New York Jets, there are also a few other reasons why fans might be upset with the organization.
One of those is the season ticket situation, as the Jets will now have a 15th straight season without making the playoffs. That’s the longest current drought in US sports.
Despite the reality of the Jets not making the postseason once again this season and sitting at 1-7, The New York Post’s Rich Calder stated that he was told that the ticket prices were going to go up once again, just two days after the Jets got their first win of the season against the Cincinnati Bengals.
He saw a major problem with that, and his key point was that if the team had been 0-8, it might not have unfolded as it did.
“I’m ready to drop Jets season tickets I’ve had in my family for more than 50 years after Gang Green and the uncontested worst owner in professional sports announced Tuesday ticket prices for most seats next season are going up – again.
“Of course, in same-old-Jets fashion, the franchise waited just two days after rookie head coach Aaron Glenn and the team finally won a game. As if a 1-7 record, rather than 0-8, was a key selling point,” he wrote.
While I understand both sides of the scenario, it's also important to note that the cost of living and everything else are always going to rise.
Being right next to New York City, with a fan base that has money, ticket prices are always going to increase for the Jets.
It's an unfortunate reality of professional sports, but I'm curious how much we can blame the Jets in this matter.
I'd like to see them go out and try to win some games in the future, and it seems like they're trying to do that with some of their moves, but until they officially do so, I can also side with the fans a bit about being angry over the idea of raising prices when the product on the field isn't good enough.
