After one of the most hectic NFL trade deadlines for the New York Jets, fans finally get to hear the perspective of the few star players left on the roster, including star wide receiver Garrett Wilson.
When asked about the results of the trade deadline on Thursday, Wilson told reporters that he has trust in the Jets’ front office and their vision for the future.
“Like I said, I don’t get paid to have a vision; they do,” Wilson stated. “And they got one. I got trust in them, I do.”
To the shock of the entire NFL world, general manager Darren Mougey dealt the franchise’s two best players on the defensive side of the ball: cornerback Sauce Gardner and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams. The trades resulted in the Jets receiving a 2026 first-round pick and two 2027 first-round picks, positioning the organization to completely overhaul the roster in the future.
In addition to reassuring the fanbase in his trust with the front office, Wilson also told reporters on Thursday that he is “paid to play football” when asked about the impact of losing Gardner and Williams.
“My emotions, that side of it...I hate it,” Wilson claimed. “I play football, I play with my brothers, I get to know my brothers...I hate it. But I'm paid to play football. No one cares if I hate it. Go catch the ball. That's how I see it. That's what I'm going to do; I'm going to do my job to the best of my abilities so that stuff like that, they feel like they can keep us all together.”
Despite Mougey’s massive fire sale earlier this week, New York made it clear that Wilson would not be moved at the deadline, according to multiple reports. The former 2022 first-round pick continues to be a focal point of the Jets’ offense, recording 3,644 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns throughout his four seasons with the organization.
However, Wilson was not the only offensive player who stayed put during the deadline.
Running back Breece Hall, who was linked to multiple teams prior to Tuesday, was not moved prior to the team’s week 10 contest against the Cleveland Browns.
Like Wilson, Hall has been a key piece of New York’s offense since being selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. However, many believed that due to the 24-year-old being in the final year of his rookie contract, Mougey would trade him to a playoff contender. Unfortunately for Hall, the front office was unable to find an appropriate deal.
Luckily for Wilson, the highly-touted playmaker received a complimentary piece in former 2024 second-round pick AD Mitchell. The 23-year-old wideout was buried amongst a loaded wide receiver corps with the Indianapolis Colts, but now has the opportunity to prove himself with the Jets.
