The Lions escaped Minnesota with a crucial divisional win, but the victory came at a devastating cost. Detroit is suddenly facing a growing injury crisis, with multiple key defenders sidelined.

It’s a Victory Monday for the Detroit Lions after defeating the Minnesota Vikings 19–15 and handing them their first loss of the season. Unfortunately, for Detroit, this Victory Monday feels a little different, as All-Pro linebacker Jack Campbell suffered a scary neck injury that left him motionless on the field.

Campbell was eventually immobilized and stretchered off the field before being transported to a nearby hospital. The latest update came from the Detroit Lions’ official X account, which stated that Campbell was resting at a local hospital. The team also shared the following statement: “Preliminary indications are positive, and out of respect for Jack and his family, we will not share further information at this time.”

Dan Campbell spoke with the media Monday and offered a brief but encouraging update, saying, “It’s positive news for Jack, so your prayers are working.” The head coach declined to comment further on questions regarding Campbell’s injury but did mention that Joe Bachie will have a bigger role in the coming weeks.

I don’t want to speculate on anything else, but I know that I, along with the rest of Lions Nation, will be praying for Jack and his family.

Unfortunately, Campbell’s injury wasn’t the only significant injury Detroit suffered during Sunday’s game. Brian Branch went to deliver a hit in the third quarter but collided with defensive lineman DJ Wonnum in a friendly-fire incident. Both players were diagnosed with concussions and did not return for the remainder of the game. They remain in concussion protocol.

Late in the first quarter, starting center Cade Mays suffered an ankle injury that also forced him out for the remainder of the game. Mays had started just one game this season after returning from a broken wrist that sidelined him for five games. Campbell said Mays will not practice Wednesday.

Return man and third-string running back Jacob Saylors also suffered a neck injury, which knocked him out for the rest of the game. Dan Campbell confirmed that Saylors will not practice Wednesday.

Rookie linebacker Jimmy Rolder suffered a hamstring injury that forced him out of Sunday’s contest. Unfortunately, things went from bad to worse for Rolder, as Campbell announced that the rookie will be out for the season and could require surgery.

Rolder was having his most productive game of the season before going down. He finished as Detroit’s leading tackler with five, adding two tackles for loss and one sack. Losing a young linebacker who was beginning to make an impact is another tough blow for Detroit’s defense.

Cornerback DJ Reed was also banged up during Sunday’s game. Campbell announced that he does not expect Reed to practice Wednesday, either. Reed is coming off another outstanding performance and was ranked as PFF’s highest-graded cornerback this week.

Detroit now faces the possibility of being without two starting-caliber linebackers for the remainder of the season, leaving Malcolm Rodriguez, Derrick Barnes, Trevor Nowaske and a likely elevation of Joe Bachie to help fill the void.

While the Lions managed to escape Minnesota with a crucial divisional victory, the mounting injuries are becoming increasingly difficult to ignore. Detroit will need to get healthy quickly as it prepares for the challenges ahead. Detroit will take on the Miami Dolphins this Sunday, looking to make it four straight wins.
