Coming off a big road win — regardless of the opponent — it’s still a fantastic Victory Monday. As seen earlier from Dan Campbell’s wife, Holly Campbell, victory coffee and a 4–1 start is not too shabby.

On this beautiful, sunny Monday — likely one of the last 80-degree days of the year — Lions fans are soaking it in while preparing for fall. Many of us were eager to hear what Dan Campbell had to say about Detroit’s Ohio beatdown.

The Lions came out firing Sunday, taking a commanding lead early, stopping the opponent on their opening drive, and continuously finding the end zone. Sure, there were mistakes and some mediocre play on the offensive line (looking at you, Giovanni Manu), but the win never felt in doubt — from kickoff to the final whistle.

Campbell opened his press conference hyping up his team. He noted that the defense gave up only four explosive plays, while the offense went 5-for-5 in the red zone. He also emphasized the importance of yards after catch from St. Brown, LaPorta, and Gibbs.

Campbell made sure to shout out special teams stars Jack Fox and Jake Bates.

Continuing his praise for the offense, Campbell highlighted Jared Goff, saying he’s “playing at a high level” and that they’ve “put a lot on his plate.” He also credited Jameson Williams for being “physical and getting after it blocking.”

He wrapped up that segment with his classic confidence: “Things to clean up — and we will clean ’em up.”

    Questions from the Media

When asked about Jameson Williams, Campbell said:

“He gets a lot of attention his way when he’s out there. They don’t want him to go over their heads, so they stay deep or keep a shell look. He helped in other ways and didn’t let it affect him. He was gonna help our runners — and he did.”

Williams had another quiet week — his third straight — finishing with just one catch for nine yards. Not exactly what fans expected after his offseason extension. But Campbell emphasized that Williams’ impact goes beyond the box score. His blocking and deep-threat presence open up the middle for Amon-Ra St. Brown, who continues to dominate as one of the NFL’s best receivers.

When asked about the defense studying other teams’ turnovers, Campbell said they’re always looking for “different tricks of the trade.” Whether it’s noticing how a fumble was forced, a player’s pursuit angle, or a late defensive shift, the Lions are putting in the film work to gain every edge possible — and it’s showing in their rising turnover numbers.

    Then the tone shifted.

When asked about second-year cornerback Terrion Arnold, Campbell said,

“Very competitive. Very calm, very cool. One of the better games he’s played in a while. Unfortunately, he’s going to be out for a while — a long time.”

When asked if it was season-ending, Campbell replied,

“Don’t know about that. But he’ll be out a while.”

    Injury Updates and Adjustments

With the Arnold news, the questions naturally turned to the defense and secondary depth.

    On Trey Flowers:

“He’s got size, he’s got length, and he’s played a little bit of (special) teams too. We like him. Signed Whiteside back — next man up.”

    On possible schematic adjustments:

“Don’t wanna go away from playing man. Do we alter some things? Yeah, we can alter some things.”

    On Rock Ya-Sin:

“He did a good job yesterday and did exactly what we asked him to do. He plays fearless. He doesn’t care who he’s going against. He challenges at the release point, he runs up, and he isn’t scared to hit.”

Then Campbell dropped another classic MCDC line:

“This train doesn’t stop for anybody. Nobody cares, nobody is going to feel sorry for you.”

Before leaving the podium, Campbell added one more unfortunate update — cornerback Khalil Dorsey “will be out for a while” as well.

He closed by mentioning that receiver Trevor TeSlaa “will get more play time and will now for sure get those reps in practice, which will help him.”

    Looking Ahead

The Lions sit at 4–1 heading into a primetime matchup against the three-time defending AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs. The silver lining? The Chiefs have a short week after a tough Monday night game against Jacksonville.

Detroit will be without Terrion Arnold and Khalil Dorsey, joining fellow injured corner D.J. Reed on the sideline. Once again, it’ll take a “next man up” mentality — something this team and fan base know all too well.
