The Lions are coming off a tough loss, but I’m going right back to the betting window. I’m 3–3 on my Lions bets, and these three picks could put some serious money in your pocket against the Jets.
Despite the Lions losing 31–41 to the Buffalo Bills last week, I still managed to go 2–1 on my Lions bets of the week. I’ve had good luck betting on opposing team players, as the Lions’ defense has been terrible to start the season. This week, I think we have to go back to the well and keep playing it until it doesn’t hit.
I’m currently sitting at 3–3, and I’m here to break the tie and put some more money in your pocket. Here are my best bets for the Lions vs. Jets game this Sunday.
1. Lions -6.5 (-110)
The classic spread bet. Heres why I love Detroit this week.
Dan Campbell took care of Ben Johnson and the Bears last season, covering the spread in both games. It’s clear that Campbell knows how to coach against his former coordinators, and I don’t expect Aaron Glenn to be any different.
The Jets are coming off an overtime game against the Packers, who just got absolutely blown out by the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday Night Football. Meanwhile, playing on Thursday night gives Detroit extra rest heading into this matchup.
I believe the Lions will bounce back in a big way and cover this spread with ease.
2. Kenyon Sadiq 25.5 Receiving Yards – Over (-114)
Although I like this bet, I don’t feel quite as confident in it as I did with some of my opposing-team player bets over the last two weeks. Still, I believe it has a good chance of hitting because the Lions have been awful at defending tight ends to start the season.
Noah Fant and Juwan Johnson combined for seven receptions, 87 yards and two touchdowns in Week 1. Then, in Week 2 against the Bills, Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox combined for nine receptions, 100 yards and two touchdowns.
Sadiq has received just three targets in each of his first two games as a rookie, but with starting tight end Mason Taylor expected to miss this game, I believe Sadiq’s role should expand.
With a playmaker like Sadiq, who ran a 4.39-second 40-yard dash, all it takes is one big catch for this prop to hit.
3. Jahmyr Gibbs 128.5 Rush/Rec Yards – Over (-114)
Jahmyr Gibbs cashed this line in Week 1 with ease when Detroit was playing at home as a 6.5-point favorite over the Saints. However, he came up just short on the road against the Bills while playing on a short week.
With extra rest under his belt, I like Gibbs to hit this number against the Jets. New York has not faced a running back remotely close to what Gibbs can do.
Detroit should be winning this game for the majority of the afternoon, if not the entire game, which should give Gibbs plenty of opportunities to run the ball and catch checkdown passes from Jared Goff.
Overall
A parlay of these three bets would give you +444 odds, meaning a $10 bet would win just over $44 in profit.
I’m most confident in the Lions covering the spread this week. I don’t believe the Jets are nearly as good as people think, despite not losing in regulation this season.
