Jared Goff’s 2025 season deserves to be viewed through both consistency and context. Quarterbacks across the league had explosive moments, but few delivered week-to-week stability at the level Goff provided for the Detroit Lions. That reliability, paired with elite production in key areas, earns Goff an A- grade for his 2025 campaign.
Goff finished the season with 4,564 passing yards, 34 touchdowns and just eight interceptions, marking the third straight year he surpassed 4,500 yards and 30 touchdown passes. It was another clear step in establishing himself as one of the NFL’s most dependable veteran quarterbacks. His 105.5 passer rating was the second-best of his career and placed him among the league’s top performers.
One of the most impressive elements of Goff’s season was his effectiveness pushing the ball downfield. He ranked third in the NFL in passer rating on throws traveling more than 10 yards, posting an elite 117.6 mark. That number underscores how Detroit’s offense did not rely solely on short, rhythm throws but consistently attacked defenses vertically with efficiency.
Goff’s ability to operate beyond his first read also stood out. On non-first read throws, he completed 73.8 percent of his passes, the third-highest rate in the league, while leading all quarterbacks with 1,937 passing yards and 96 first downs in those situations. He also ranked second in touchdowns (15) and passer rating (107.2) on those plays, reinforcing how well he processed defenses and extended plays within structure.
The Lions’ quarterback showed a strong blend of volume and explosiveness. Goff recorded six games with more than 300 passing yards and had four games with at least three touchdown passes. He also threw a touchdown pass in all 17 games, becoming the only Lions player to accomplish that feat in a single season. That streak extended his run to 23 consecutive games with a touchdown pass, the longest active streak in the NFL.
Few stretches in league history compare to Goff’s peak efficiency during the season. Over any six-game span, no quarterback in NFL history has posted a higher completion percentage (82.8 percent) or passer rating (140.1). That level of sustained excellence highlights just how locked in Goff was during the heart of the schedule.
The A- grade reflects both his excellence and the small areas where he left room for growth. While Goff largely protected the football, Detroit’s offense occasionally stalled against top-tier defenses, and there were moments late in games where execution faltered. Those factors keep his grade just shy of the elite A or A-plus tier reserved for the league’s very best seasons.
Still, the bigger picture is clear. Goff delivered another high-level season, anchored one of the NFL’s most productive passing attacks and proved his success in Detroit is no fluke. He combined efficiency, durability and command of the offense, providing the Lions with stability at the most important position.
In a league defined by quarterback volatility, Goff’s 2025 season was defined by trust. For Detroit, that reliability is invaluable, and worthy of an A-.
