The Detroit Lions’ offense showed flashes of high-end production in the 2025 NFL season, finishing with one of the league’s most potent attack units overall and turning in standout individual performances across multiple skill positions. Here’s how Detroit stacked up in every major offensive category.
Quarterbacks — Jared Goff: A-
Quarterback Jared Goff quietly delivered one of his most efficient seasons, finishing with 4,564 passing yards, 34 touchdowns and just eight interceptions while completing 68% of his passes. That total ranked second in the NFL in passing yards behind only a handful of elite quarterbacks, and his 105.5 passer rating reflected consistent ball security and efficiency in the Lions’ pass-heavy attack.
Goff’s production helped the Lions’ aerial attack rank among the top passing offenses in the league, with Detroit averaging 268.6 passing yards per game and ranking near the top of league scoring. His A- grade recognizes his trusted veteran play, especially in clutch situations, even if he lacks the rushing upside of some dual-threat quarterbacks.
Running Backs — Jahmyr Gibbs & David Montgomery: A
Detroit’s ground game was a major asset. Rookie star Jahmyr Gibbs rushed for 1,223 yards with 13 touchdowns on the ground and added 77 receptions for 616 yards and five receiving scores, giving Detroit one of the most versatile backfields in the league. His all-around usage placed him among the NFL’s top backs in both rushing and receiving categories.
David Montgomery provided a steady complementary rushing attack with 716 yards and eight touchdowns, helping keep defenses honest and giving Detroit a balanced run game.
Although the team’s overall rushing yardage didn’t lead the league, Gibbs in particular graded as one of the NFL’s most efficient and productive backs, justifying the collective A grade for one of the league’s most dangerous running back duos.
Wide Receivers — Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Isaac Teslaa: A+
Detroit’s receiving corps was among the NFL’s elite. Amon-Ra St. Brown led the team with 1,401 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns, one of the most productive seasons in the league for a wideout.
Jameson Williams added 1,117 yards and seven scores, demonstrating his big-play ability with a 17.2-yards-per-reception average that ranked among the best in the NFL. Detroit also got contributions from rookie Isaac Teslaa, who consistently made plays and helped stretch the field.
Together, the trio gave Goff a dynamic and multidimensional receiving attack that consistently ranked among league leaders in yardage and explosiveness, justifying an A+ for a truly elite receiver group.
Tight Ends — Sam LaPorta: B+
Tight end Sam LaPorta continued to be a key component of the Lions’ passing game. LaPorta hauled in 489 receiving yards and three touchdowns, making difficult catches in traffic and serving as a reliable third option behind St. Brown and Williams.
While LaPorta may not have reached elite statistical territory relative to some top tight ends across the league, his blocking and versatility in both pass and run schemes helped Detroit’s offense maintain balance. His grade reflects that dependable, if not spectacular, all-around contribution.
Offensive Line: C
Detroit’s offensive line was a mixed bag in 2025. While players like Penei Sewell anchored the unit with strong play and occasional elite run-blocking grades, the line as a whole struggled with consistency, particularly in pass protection at times and with continuity due to injuries and rotation changes.
Overall offensive line metrics did not rank among the league’s best, and run blocking, while effective in bursts, lacked reliability on a week-to-week basis, especially compared to top units in the NFL. That warrants the middle-of-the-road C grade, recognizing flashes of talent but overall inconsistency.
In summary, the Lions’ offense combined strong quarterback play, an explosive running game, elite receiving production and positional balance — offset slightly by uneven line play. With continued development up front, Detroit’s offense could be among the NFL’s very best for years to come.
