The four-time MVP reunites with Mike McCarthy for an official visit, paving the way for a veteran presence to guide Pittsburgh’s young quarterbacks through the 2026 season.

The NFL’s worst-kept secret is finally nearing a conclusion. After placing a seldom-used unrestricted free agent tender on quarterback Aaron Rodgers, it appears that resolution for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ signal caller spot is on the way.

While the expectation has long been that a Steel City return could be on the way for the four-time league MVP, the updates have been at a trickling pace over the offseason.

That is, until the faucet began to blast on Thursday.

For a look at one of the biggest challenges the Steelers and Rodgers could face if reunited in 2026, Steelers Roundtable writer Jordan Sigler broke down the critical depth at a key position.

Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the veteran quarterback is taking a visit with the Steelers soon. After which, an agreement that works for both sides is expected to bring him back to Pittsburgh for another season.

The return would set the Steelers up to avoid a scramble or competition at the league’s most important position for the year, giving young passers behind him like former Ohio State signal caller Will Howard and rookie Drew Allar, a chance to continue their development.

This is positive momentum for the Steelers, getting them a step closer to clarity under new head coach Mike McCarthy, who coached Rodgers from 2006 to 2018.

Rodgers completed 65.7% of his passes last year for 3,322 passing yards while throwing 24 touchdowns to just seven interceptions. He currently still holds all-time records for lowest career interception percentage and highest career passer rating.

No deal is officially done just yet, but it appears to be only a matter of time.
