The Dallas Cowboys made a bold call on the future with running back Javonte Williams after a breakout first season with the team.

The Dallas Cowboys aren’t always the most prolific spenders in free agency, but they deviated from their norm this offseason following an electric year by the driving force behind their rush attack. The Cowboys agreed to terms with star running back Javonte Williams on Saturday of a three-year deal totaling $24 million which includes a $6 million signing bonus, with $16 million guaranteed. Dallas didn’t even let Williams have a chance to test the waters in free agency, which isn’t set to begin until next month.

Williams gave the Cowboys offense a real spark in his first season with the team, rushing for 1,201 yards and 11 touchdowns, leading a top 10 rush attack that Dallas will hope to continue. It’s a really solid pay day following a one-year, $3 million prove it deal he inked with the team last offseason. The 25-year-old hit career highs in rush yards, carries, and touchdowns last season – and had the ninth most yards in the league despite a lingering stinger in the final month of the season.

Here is the full story from Cowboys Roundtable writer Mike Fisher on the bold move by Dallas to solidify their ground game.

The former Denver Broncos second rounder was so productive that his 1,201 yards are the most by a Cowboys running back since Ezekiel Elliot’s 1,357 yards in 2019. Williams also offered quarterback Dak Prescott some help out of the backfield as a pass catcher, with 35 receptions for 137 yards and two touchdowns. It’s an exciting and surprising day for Dallas fans that can look at a future with a solidied rush attack alongside the passing game.
