General manager Joe Hortiz hints at a possible return for the veteran wideout, offering the franchise icon a chance to chase Antonio Gates’ legendary receiving records.

A potential reunion between the Los Angeles Chargers and one of their most productive offensive playmakers could still be on the horizon, per the team's general manager.

The team's all-time receptions leader, wide receiver Keenan Allen, made a return to the Chargers last year after spending a year away with the Chicago Bears, and it sounds like a chance to notch a 13th season with the club.

For more on Chargers' general manager Joe Hortiz's comments on Allen and the value of the wideout remaining in Los Angeles, Chargers Roundtable writer Brad Magsam has the latest.

Allen is currently still an unsigned free agent after his return-season in 2025, during which, he appeared in 17 games, reeling in 81 receptions for 777 receiving yards and four touchdown catches.

Should he return to Los Angeles, his connection with quarterback Justin Herbert could put him on track to claim the all-time record for most receiving yards in franchise history, which is currently held by former tight end Antonio Gates.  Gates also has a sizable lead on receiving touchdowns, being the only Charger in the team's history with more than 100 touchdown catches.

Allen has been a cornerstone player and leader for the Chargers since he entered the league in 2013. That's the kind of contribution that head coach Jim Harbaugh isn't likely to overlook for his club.

Should the wideout find his way back, ideally before training camp, he'll be looking at a true opportunity to etch his name again in the team's history books and contribute to an up-and-coming roster.
