The Green Bay star "vehemently denies" allegations following an reported weekend disturbance, leaving the franchise to navigate legal turmoil and a potential roster crisis as the legal investigation unfolds.
Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs has turned himself in at the Hobart-Lawrence police department in Hobart, Wis., a press release from the department states.
Per the release, officers were dispatched on the morning of Saturday, May 23 due to "a disturbance complaint" that involved Jacobs.
These situations always include two distinct conversations in professional sports. The legal side and the on-field side. With the intent to not diminish the importance of either of these important focuses, here's a look at both as they stand in the very early stations of this ongoing situation.
The Legal Side
The release lists a series of charges on which Jacobs was booked into Brown County Jail in Green Bay, Wis. The listed charges include:
- Battery - Domestic Abuse
- Criminal Damage to Property - Domestic Abuse
- Disorderly Conduct - Domestic Abuse
- Strangulation and Suffocation
- Intimidation of a Victim
The NFL released a statement on the situation saying, "We are aware of the report and have been in contact with the club," per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Jacobs' attorneys also released a statement that the running back "vehemently denies the allegations." The attorneys also note "important evidence" has not yet been made public.
How this situation plays out remains to be seen, as the investigation is still active. But it is certainly an impactful moment for the Packers from an on-field perspective.
The Football Side
Should Jacobs receive any league discipline for the alleged charges, something that won't be decided until the legal process fully plays itself out, it would be quite the loss for Green Bay to start off the season.
Jacobs signed with the Packers ahead of the 2024 NFL season after spending his first five years with the Las Vegas Raiders. Since his arrival with the Packers, Jacobs has rushed for 1,329 rushing yards in 2024 and 929 last year while totaling 28 rushing touchdowns combined.
He's been a key focal point in the offense's motor as the team has reached the playoffs, despite early exits, in both of his seasons with the team.
This is a story that will continue to bring new details with every turn. Packers Roundtable will have the latest.
