The Steelers may have an odd man out in their quarterback room, but will they look to see what they have in their young guys?

The Pittsburgh Steelers have now re-signed Aaron Rodgers to a one-year deal, but that was after reshaping their quarterback room through free agency and the draft. They now have four quarterbacks on the roster between Rodgers, returnees Mason Rudolph and Will Howard, and Drew Allar, who they selected in the third round of the NFL draft. That leaves some tough decisions to make, and it could transpire past this season.

With such a strong 2027 quarterback class, the Steelers will also want to be setting themselves up for their future past Rodgers, whose time is waning in the league. Will they take the chance to see what they have in their younger guys? Someone is likely to get cut, and Howard certainly seems expendable being a sixth-round pick in 2025. But does he offer more upside in the future than Rudolph? Is it worth seeing that out before the end of the year?

If anyone is to see the field, they may look to their No. 76 overall pick from the Penn State Nittany Lions, who has the athleticism and tools but needs to work on some footwork and accuracy which play into some chaotic decision-making moments under pressure. However, coach Mike McCarthy has a quarterback friendly scheme that could certainly help with mechanics and play into a high ceiling for Allar, one that now might be limited to preseason and injury reps in 2026 unless Pittsburgh decides to take a peek at their future.

To read more about the conundrum surrounding the QB room and what to do with Allar, here is the full story from Steelers Roundtable writer Jon Conahan.

Rodgers’ return puts both Allar and Howard’s development in limbo, and a four-quarterback room won’t be sustainable. It’ll be a question if they think it’s worth seeing what they have in Howard, or possibly cutting him to make way for an Allar-led future or an unknown in the incoming quarterback class in next year’s draft.
