The Las Vegas Raiders' trade with the Baltimore Ravens for Maxx Crosby fell through due to failed medicals, and more details have been released.

It’s safe to say that the failed trade between the Las Vegas Raiders and Baltimore Ravens for Maxx Crosby will go down in sports history as one of the biggest blunders – though the Ravens escaped quite alright and recouped with the addition of free agent pass rusher Trey Hendrickson. But what exactly went wrong? Both the Raiders and Crosby’s agents have released statements regarding Crosby’s medicals, as his failed physical was the reason that the trade was nixed by Baltimore. Crosby is back rehabbing at the Raiders facility and reportedly has plans now to play for Las Vegas after previously being disgruntled.

One of the statements released came from Crosby’s surgeon, Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who told ESPN that Crosby is “back on track” in his recovery from a meniscus tear and “the related stress injury to the bone and cartilage in his knee.” Now, while Baltimore was at liberty to reverse the trade, Mike Silver of The Athletic reports that “the Raiders did get screwed.” There may have been something revealed in the medicals that went over the threshold of the team’s risk assessment for trades of the caliber of Crosby, one that would have sent their 2026 first rounder and 2027 first-round pick to Las Vegas. If the Raiders were counting on that capital in their future plans, they now really have to pivot.

Now, there is a lot to clean up as a result of the failed trade, with Las Vegas counting on that extensive cleared cap space to make several moves on Monday in the first day of free agency. The Raiders also have to clean up the situation with Crosby, and that could either mean repatching the relationship or trying to retool the trade with Baltimore or another suitor, the former being more likely.
