The Dallas Cowboys and kicker Brandon Aubrey remain several million apart in contract negotiations.

If anyone saw the NFL Mic’d Up moment when newly acquired Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Quinnen Williams was in disbelief that their team only needed to cross midfield to get in scoring range, they know how valuable kicker Brandon Aubrey is to the team. The elite NFL kicker has the league record in career field goals of 60+yards with six total and is one of the most accurate and impactful kickers in NFL history. He’s a dominant third phase alone for the Cowboys. But will they be willing to pay the price of that? While Dallas and Aubrey’s agent are in agreement that Aubrey should be the highest-paid kicker in the league, the discrepancy is by how much.

According to ESPN, the Cowboys offered a deal that is more than what Kansas City Chiefs' kicker Harrison Butker league-leading contract with a $6.4 million average per season. But Aubrey’s agent, Todd France, has countered with a number closer to $10 million. In other words, the longstanding negotiations that began last season haven’t gotten very far ahead of Aubrey set to be a restricted free agent.

Here is the full story from Cowboys Roundtable writer Mike Fisher on Aubrey's high demands and whether Dallas would be right to match them.

It’s expected that Dallas will place an approximate $5.8 million second-round tender on the Pro Bowler. Astonishingly, Aubrey started his career as an undrafted free agent – which would mean that the Cowboys wouldn’t receive compensation in return if they put the right-of-first-refusal tender on him and don’t elect to match it. Dallas fans certainly hope it doesn’t get anywhere close to that point.
