The New Orleans Saints have had several franchise legends leave the team that left massive voids – namely, HOF-bound quarterback Drew Brees and former head coach Sean Payton, now with the Denver Broncos. But one thing has remained consistent over the last 15 seasons, and that’s the Saints’ all-time franchise sack leader, defensive end Cameron Jordan. According to Katherine Terrell of ESPN, Jordan will hit free agency once the new league year begins next week. The 36-year-old has spent his entire career in New Orleans since being selected by the team with their first round pick in the 2011 NFL draft. He’s made it clear that he wants to finish his career with the Black and Gold.
The question will be, at what price? Jordan’s contract will automatically void if there isn’t a new deal in place by Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET. That would leave the Saints to absorb an $18.76 million dead money cap hit for 2026. If they were to ink a deal with Jordan after the deadline, it would be double the hit, as that dead money would still stand, and the money from his new contract would also count against the salary cap. It would be hard to imagine Jordan playing elsewhere, especially with his franchise record 132 career sacks.
Here is the full story from Saints Roundtable writer Joey Hickey on the major details that would mark the end of an iconic era should the team move on from Jordan.
Jordan has only missed one game in his 15-year career due to an orbital bone fracture in 2022. He’s started in 242 of 243 possible games with the franchise.
