Here is why the New York Giants should draft Carnell Tate.
The New York Giants have been urged to select Ohio State WR Carnell Tate with the fifth overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report thinks the Giants should select Tate and pair him with Malik Nabers and Jaxson Dart.
"Carnell Tate isn't a traditional wide receiver option that's usually seen selected this high in the draft process," Sobleski wrote. "The 21-year-old prospect isn't the biggest or more explosive option. However, he doesn't need to be since the Giants roster already features Malik Nabers, who will be returning from last year's season-ending ACL tear. Tate can simultaneously offset any rust that Nabers shows early in the season, while providing Jaxson Dart with another talented threat to help in the quarterback's development.
"In Tate's case, he's a fantastic route-runner and reliable target to provide the ideal complementary piece in the Giants offense."
For Ohio State in 2025, Tate had 51 receptions for 875 receiving yards and nine receiving touchdowns. He finished his college career with 121 receptions for 1,872 receiving yards and 14 receiving touchdowns in 39 games.
Tate helped Ohio State win the championship against Notre Dame on January 20, 2025.
The Giants need more playmakers for Dart, who finished his rookie season with 2,272 passing yards, 15 passing touchdowns, five interceptions, 487 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns. Dart appears to have a bright future with Matt Nagy and John Harbaugh in his corner now.
The Giants haven't made the playoffs since the 2022 season. That was the first year of the Brian Daboll era.
Daboll was fired during the middle of last season, and while Dart was close with Daboll, he believes Harbaugh will turn the New York franchise around.
"He was just a coach who I feel like I just bought into the things that he was saying immediately, and just the way that he carries himself and can conduct himself in front of a room and his track record is incredible," Dart told ESPN in January.
"So immediately the winning culture, the intensity, and then just the enthusiasm and love about football, that's what he carries and brings to the team. So, just can't wait to get started and get rolling with him."
