The New York Giants announced huge Jaxson Dart news on Wednesday.
Dart was a full participant in practice, so he could play against the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football.
Dart has thrown for 1,417 yards, 10 touchdowns and three interceptions and rushed for 317 yards and seven touchdowns this season.
Against the Chicago Bears in Week 10, Dart was checked for a concussion for the fourth time this season, including the preseason. He didn't play in Week 11 against the Green Bay Packers or Week 12 against the Detroit Lions.
New York fired Brian Daboll after the Chicago game, and according to NFL insider Jordan Raanan of ESPN, Daboll's approach with Dart played a role in him losing his job.
"Coaching can make a difference in close games, and the Giants have already blown four double-digit leads on the road this season," Raanan wrote. "It also gets held against Daboll that Dart was injured under his watch. Daboll was insistent on not wanting to take away his young quarterback's aggressiveness. But the reckless nature in which Dart was taking hits ultimately led to this point. The need to avoid this wasn't stressed.
"Basically, this was the breaking point after blowing another game, the poor results and a handful of embarrassing incidents such as entering the blue medical tent to check on Dart while he was being examined for a concussion, which warranted discipline from the league."
Daboll went 20-40-1 with the Giants in the regular season and 1-1 in the playoffs. He was hired in 2022.
New York already lost rookie stud Cam Skattebo to a season-ending injury. The last thing they need is for Dart to get hurt as well.
With that said, if Dart plays again this season, it will be fascinating to see if he protects himself more under interim head coach Mike Kafka.
The Giants will miss the playoffs again this season, but at least they won't need to draft a quarterback in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
