Giants' Brian Daboll Gets Brutally Honest About Loss to 49ers cover image

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll spoke out honestly after losing to the San Francisco 49ers.

Brian Daboll and the New York Giants lost their third game in a row in Week 9 NFL action, falling to the San Francisco 49ers by a final score of 34-24. It was another disappointment in what has been a season full of them.

While there is a lot more hope for the future with Jaxson Dart leading the way, the Giants still have some very clear issues.

One of the big questions that the team will need to answer comes on the sidelines. Is Daboll truly the right guy to lead this franchise into the future? Many fans don't think so.

Following the loss to the 49ers, Daboll spoke out with some brutal honesty about himself. He shouldered blame for the loss to San Francisco.

"None of us did a good enough job," Daboll said. "That starts with me. We'll continue to work at it."

That same thing could be said of the team in all seven losses this season. Daboll has struggled once again even with an improved roster.

Since taking over as the head coach in New York, Daboll has led the franchise to a 20-39-1 record. He did lead them to the playoffs in 2022, but lost in the Divisional Game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

In the loss to the 49ers, the Giants saw Dart completed 24 of his 33 pass attempts for 191 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. He also picked up 56 yards and a touchdown on the ground. That performance is just another reason to be excited about his future.

Unfortunately, it was not enough to lift New York to a win.

Next up for the Giants will be a Week 10 matchup on the road against the Chicago Bears. That game will not make things easier on New York and Daboll.

Once again, it appears that the Giants are headed for a high pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. It's not necessarily the worst thing in the world for the struggling franchise.

However, when the 2025 NFL season comes to an end, New York will need to make a difficult decision. Is Daboll the guy that can lead them back to winning? Or, do they need to make a change?

Fans will just have to wait patiently to find out the answer to that burning question.
