The New York Giants may have just been done a huge favor.

The New York Giants own the No. 5 overall pick in the NFL Draft, and in a perfect world, they would be able to trade down.

While the Giants have some very obvious needs, there are no clear-cut answers for them with their top draft choice, so moving back and acquiring some more draft capital may be the best route for them to pursue.

The problem is that because this draft class is not exactly loaded with top-end talent, it may be difficult to find a team willing to trade up.

But that may have just changed.

On Tuesday, the Miami Dolphins traded wide receiver Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos, acquiring the Broncos' 2026 first-round pick — as well as third and fourth-rounders — in return.

With Tyreek Hill and Waddle now both gone, the Dolphins are in desperate need of help at wide receiver, so trading up for Carnell Tate would make perfect sense for them.

Enter the Giants, who have been linked to Tate with the fifth overall selection, but don't seem overly eager to take the Ohio State product.

Miami now owns 11 picks in this year's NFL Draft, with a hefty seven of them coming in the first three rounds. That makes the Dolphins an ideal trade partner for New York, which owns seven selections in total and just two over the first two days.

Surely, Miami would be intrigued by the possibility of landing Tate, who is considered by most to be the best receiver in this draft class, regardless of his pedestrian 40-yard dash time at the Scouting Combine.

The Giants could swing a deal with the Dolphins to acquire the 11th overall pick, one of their thirds (preferably the highest at No. 75) plus a 2027 draft choice, sending the fifth overall selection to South Beach in return.

This would give New York more flexibility in this year's draft plus an extra asset to utilize in 2027, as well.

Moving down to No. 11 would allow the Giants to be more comfortable selecting someone like Penn State guard Olaivavega Ioane or potentially even cornerback Mansoor Delane. They could then draft a receiver at No. 37 and circle back around to another position of need at No. 75.

The opportunity is now there for Big Blue to make a move, so John Harbaugh and Joe Schoen should be prepared to strike.
