The New York Giants could target this monstrous player to help solidify their defense.

The New York Giants definitely need to add another defensive tackle alongside of Dexter Lawrence this offseason, and the best avenue will be through the NFL Draft.

While Lawrence is one of the best interior defenders in football (regardless of his poor showing in 2025), the Giants' run defense is in dire need of a boost, which is why adding a space-eater in the trenches should be a priority in the coming months.

New York owns the No. 5 overall pick in the draft, but at this current point in time, there do not appear to be any defensive tackles worth selecting in that range. Not even Clemson's Peter Woods, whose stock has plummeted in recent weeks.

The Giants could, however, be in perfect position to bag an interior defensive lineman with their second-round pick at No. 37, and there is one player at that position who is suddenly rocketing up draft boards and could be an option for Big Blue: Texas Tech star Lee Hunter.

Hunter was dominant at the Senior Bowl, and while he wasn't exactly a no-name prior, his performance certainly did quite a bit to bolster his standing.

The 6-foot-4, 330-pound behemoth registered 41 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble this past season after spending the first three years of his collegiate career at Central Florida.

Hunter was impressive with the Knights, as well, with his best campaign at UCF coming in 2023 when he racked up 69 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and three sacks.

While he isn't a pass-rushing extraordinaire, the Giants don't even need that. They just require a large defensive tackle who can stuff the run and take on multiple blockers, which, by the way, would help New York's pass rush in and of itself.

Woods definitely has a higher ceiling than Hunter, but chances are, the former will not still be available at No. 37 (although some mock drafts do have him falling to Round 2 now). Hunter, on the other hand, might still be there.

Let's say the Giants go wide receiver in Round 1. If Hunter is there for the taking on Day 2, New York should not waste time in scooping him up.

The Giants' defense has tons of potential with talented players like Lawrence, Brian Burns and Abdul Carter littering the front seven. Installing a run-stuffing defensive tackle would help take that unit to the next level, and Hunter could prove to be just the player they need.
