New York Giants fans shouldn't break the emergency glass just yet.
New York Giants fans watched as the team's top skill position player, wide receiver Malik Nabers, suffered a torn ACL in Week 4 of the 2025 NFL campaign. Because he sustained the injury so early in the season, most assumed he would be ready by Week 1 next fall.
But the more time passed, the more concerns heightened.
The Giants have been rather cryptic when it comes to Nabers' recovery timeline, and some have been operating under the assumption that he may not be on the field when New York takes on the Dallas Cowboys in the 2026 season opener.
Well, now, things got even more complicated, as Dan Duggan of The Athletic has revealed that Nabers underwent a second knee procedure this offseason in order to remove scar tissue that was causing stiffness.
While this doesn't seem like a huge deal, known ex-NFL team doctor David J. Chao isn't ready to brush it off just yet.
"Not necessarily a disaster but certainly not good news. Indicates potential stiffness or loss of motion post ACL. Certainly something to watch," Chao posted on X.

Because Nabers is a phenomenal athlete who relies heavily on his quick-twitch movement, the fact that he has now undergone two knee procedures in a span of seven months is at least slightly worrisome.
The Giants signed Darnell Mooney and Calvin Austin III in free agency, and they also selected Malachi Fields in the NFL Draft. That's all well and good, but the problem is that neither Mooney nor Austin are No. 1 receivers, and Fields is entirely unproven.
If Nabers is compromised in any way next season, it would absolutely sabotage any chance New York has of making a potential playoff run.
Again, it's still too early to hit the panic button. We don't know the full story when it comes to Nabers' health, and we'll probably get more information as we get closer to training camp. But this is obviously not what Big Blue fans wanted to hear.
Hopefully, the former first-round pick is able to make a full recovery and return to the field for Week 1 in September. But at the same time, the Giants should make it a priority to ensure he is 100 percent healthy before allowing him to play again.
