The New York Giants have received more tough injury news.
The New York Giants have been hit with the injury bug yet again.
As the Giants prepare for their matchup against the Washington Commanders on Sunday, they announced that they have placed defensive lineman Chauncey Golston on the injured reserve list due to a neck injury.
Golston left the team's win over the Arizona Cardinals last weekend with the issue, and afterward, head coach John Harbaugh revealed it could be a long-term injury.
The 28-year-old logged 12 tackles in four games this season.
New York signed Golston to a three-year, $18 million contract in March 2025 following a breakout campaign with the Dallas Cowboys the season prior.
During that 2024 showing, Golston registered 56 tackles, 5.5 sacks, an interception and five passes defended while playing in every game.
When the Giants initially added Golston, it was viewed as a terrific pickup given his versatility and how well he played during his final season in Dallas.
However, Golston barely made an impact in Year 1 with the Giants, playing in just 10 games and logging 20 tackles and a sack. When he was on the field, he appeared in only 27 percent of New York's defensive snaps.
It should also be noted that the University of Iowa product was sidelined with a neck injury last year, as well, so there is concern that this could become a recurring issue for him.
This year, things were a bit different for Golston up front.
Golston played a much bigger role in the Giants' front seven from the outset, playing in 52 percent of New York's defensive snaps.
His size (6-foot-5, 277 pounds) and athleticism allowed him to play both on the interior and on the edge, and with Big Blue already having Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Abdul Carter as edge defenders, Golston's ability to play down on the line was pivotal.
Of course, Burns went down for the season with a torn ACL in Week 3, making the loss of Golston that much more crushing for the Giants.
In spite of all of the injuries (including the loss of Jaxson Dart), New York has gotten off to a 3-1 star and sits in sole possession of first place in the NFC East.
The Giants will have the opportunity to win their third straight game for the first time since 2022 when they take on the Commanders in the nation's capital Sunday afternoon.
