The New York Giants could make a stunning organizational move as soon as this week.

The New York Giants just completed their NFL Draft, and they have generally gotten high marks across the board for the work they did.

From the outside looking, it appeared to be a collaborative effort between head coach John Harbaugh and general manager Joe Schoen, although we do know that Harbaugh has more power than the executive.

But just how much does Harbaugh like working with Schoen? And how much leash does Schoen have as Giants GM?

Well, Pat Leonard of The New York Daily News dropped a bombshell this week, saying that Schoen's time in the Big Apple could swiftly be coming to a close.

"You talk to people in the league, it feels like anything is on the board right now," Leonard said. "There are people in the NFL that think Joe Schoen could be fired this week."

Leonard added that others are under the impression that Harbaugh might just decide to move on from Schoen after the season.

"What you heard around the league and from people who know how Harbaugh works and how he thinks, eventually he was planning on moving on and bringing in somebody that he's more familiar with, that he has a lot of respect for and has a history with into that chair," Leonard said.

Leonard also stated that Harbaugh was surely not too happy over the fact that the Giants just had to trade defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence as a result of Schoen having not handled the situation previously.

This indicates that Harbaugh was clearly the driving force between New York's decisions in the draft and that it may not have been such a joint effort after all.

But it would also look really odd for the Giants to fire Schoen now.

You would think that if New York were going to get rid of Schoen, it would have happened at the time it hired Harbaugh back in January. That way, Harbaugh could have chosen his own GM with whom to participate in free agency and the draft.

All of that being said, with Schoen's contract expiring at the end of 2026, there does seem to be a good chance that the Giants will have a new general manager after next season.
