The New York Giants have received a positive injury update as rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart has cleared concussion protocol.
Dart suffered a concussion back in Week 10 against the Chicago Bears and has missed the last two games.
In his absence, the Giants started veteran quarterback Jameis Winston and lost two tight games to the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions.
Prior to his concussion, Dart had been playing well. The 22-year-old quarterback has completed 62.7 percent of his passes for 1,417 yards, 10 touchdowns, and three interceptions. He has also rushed for 317 yards and seven touchdowns.
He has shown that he could be a building block for New York as they continue their rebuild.
As Dart returns, the Giants will hope he is more conservative as a runner. He should still use his legs as it's a major part of his game, but he needs to slide or go out of bounds instead of trying to fight for extra yards.
New York drafted Dart with the 25th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. When on the field, he's shown a ton of promise, so it'll be up to the coaching staff to emphasize the importance of not taking unnecessary hits on runs.
Dart will have a tough matchup in his return as he takes on the 10-2 New England Patriots. The Patriots have the best record in the NFL and are playing well on both sides of the ball.
New England gives up the eighth-fewest yards per game and the second-fewest rushing yards per game. The Patriots' strong defense is a difficult matchup for Dart in his first game back.
As they go up against a strong run defense, New York will need to let Dart rip it loose downfield. With wide receiver Malik Nabers out for the season, Dart will rely on Wan'Dale Robinson, Darius Slayton, and Theo Johnson.
However, it could be even more bleak for the Giants as Robinson and Slayton were only limited in practice on Thursday.
Dart has been a promising young quarterback, and Sunday's matchup against the Patriots will be a major test for him in his return.
