Giants' Jaxson Dart 'Surprised' He Was Checked for Concussion vs Commanders cover image

New York Giants rookie Jaxson Dart has been forced to leave a game to be checked for a concussion five times this season.

New York Giants rookie QB Jaxson Dart left the Washington Commanders game early in the fourth quarter to be examined for a concussion.

Dart has been forced to leave a game to be checked for a concussion five times this season.

After the Giants lost to the Commanders, Dart said he was surprised he had to be examined by the medical team.

"I don't really – I mean, the play, I tried to put a little trick pass on it," Dart said. "They did a good job of covering it so didn't want to make a bad play worse by forcing the ball. Just tried to get it back to the line of scrimmage. I'm not really sure what the reason was I had to come out of the game. It was just a really – it was weird. I don't understand it."

Dart missed two plays against the Commanders before getting cleared to return. He threw an incompletion into the end zone on fourth down.

"This definitely wasn't the first time that I've been surprised that I've had to come out," Dart said. "But I was definitely surprised, just didn't feel like it was that big of a hit at all. Obviously, just the situation that we were in too, first-and-goal on the two, that's a big thing that happens in the game. So, I was definitely surprised."

The Giants lost to the Commanders by a final score of 29-21. Dart finished the game 20-36 through the air for 246 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He also carried the ball nine times for 63 yards.

"Yeah, I take accountability for this one," Dart said. "I didn't play well enough today for this team to win, so I've got to be better, especially in that situation. I didn't play good enough for our team today."

The Giants will have a high pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, but they won't have to draft a QB since Dart has played well as a rookie. The Ole Miss product has 1,802 passing yards, 13 passing touchdowns, 400 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns on the season.

"I'm a competitor. I want the ball in my hand," Dart said. "I definitely feel comfortable and confident running the ball. But at the same time, there are a lot of other really good guys on the team. We've got mouths to feed. So, you just try to do your best of doing the right thing for each and every play, trying to just stay disciplined, execute what's called, and I have confidence in all the guys around me."
