The New York Giants' attempt at a Jonathan Taylor trade has taken a tough turn.

The New York Giants are in the market for a running back before the NFL trade deadline, and their sights are set on Indianapolis Colts star Jonathan Taylor.

And why wouldn't they be focused on him?

Taylor is one of the best halfbacks in football and just signed a two-year extension with the Colts, keeping him under contract through 2028.

The Giants have Cam Skattebo as their lead back, but Tyrone Tracy was just placed on injured reserve, they released Najee Harris and Devin Singletary is nothing more than a depth option at this stage.

That's why Taylor would be such a tremendous pickup for New York between now and Nov. 10, but NFL insider Jordan Schultz has revealed some tough news for Big Blue on that front.

While Schultz stated that the Giants are definitely among several teams vying for Taylor's services, he noted that Indianapolis' asking price is "believed to be too high" at the current point in time, which obviously complicates things.

Schultz qualified his statement by saying that a Taylor trade is still more likely than not, but at what cost?

Now, with the deadline still nine days away, it's entirely possible that the Colts will eventually come down from their initial demands.

That being said, with so many teams competing for Taylor, it's also within the realm of chance that Indy will ultimately get what it wants.

Taylor has rushed for 587 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging 4.2 yards per carry this season. The dip in efficiency is concerning, but it's also fair to mention that the Colts' offense has not exactly afforded Taylor much help.

The 27-year-old entered the NFL as a second-round pick of Indianapolis in 2020 and led the league with 1,811 rushing yards and 18 rushing scores as soon as his second season.

Injuries caused Taylor to miss 20 games between 2022 and 2024, so that is a bit of a concern. But the University of Wisconsin product did play in all 17 games last year.

The Giants have already traded away their fourth, fifth and seventh-round picks in 2027, leaving them very thin on draft capital.

Of course, the Colts will likely be requiring at least one Day 2 pick, and New York does own its first, second and third-rounders. The Giants could also include future draft capital in a trade package.

Regardless, right now, it appears that Indianapolis is demanding a king's ransom in return for Taylor. We'll see who blinks first.
