The New York Giants are being predicted to land a dynamic weapon for Jaxson Dart.

The New York Giants did sign a couple of wide receivers in free agency, adding Calvin Austin III and Darnell Mooney, but neither player fits what the Giants really need at the position: a true X-receiver.

New York could always just nab Ohio State star Carnell Tate with the No. 5 overall pick to rectify that problem, but it's looking more and more like the Giants will be going in a different direction with their top draft choice.

That being said, it would be pretty surprising if New York didn't take a receiver somewhere in the NFL Draft, and in his recent five-round mock draft, Chad Reuter of NFL.com had Big Blue landing one of the draft's most intriguing weapons with the 145th overall selection: Cincinnati standout Jeff Caldwell.

Caldwell is a towering 6-foot-5, 215-pound receiver who clocked in with a 4.31-second 40-yard dash at the Scouting Combine. He is a freakish athlete with tantalizing potential, even if his production in 2025 was rather skimpy.

The Louisville, Ky. native caught 32 passes for 478 yards and six touchdowns during his lone season with the Bearcats, averaging a healthy 14.9 yards per catch.

Caldwell actually began his collegiate career at Lindenwood in 2022 and spent three years with the Lions, with his best showing coming in 2024 when he hauled in 52 receptions for 1,011 yards and 10 scores.

The imposing wide out owns a lifetime average of 18 yards per grab, so Caldwell has definitely displayed explosive potential.

Caldwell's route tree is still rather elementary, and he is still very raw in terms of his playmaking skills in general, but there is no question that his ceiling is enticing.

It's easy to think of D.K. Metcalf when assessing Caldwell, especially considering that Caldwell joined Metcalf and Bryce Lance — another 2026 prospect — as the only receivers 6-foot-3 or above in history who ran a sub-4.35 40-yard dash while also posting a vertical leap in excess of 40 inches.

That seems like a rather arbitrary club, but it does demonstrate just how unique of a physical specimen Caldwell actually is.

If the Giants are going to take a late-round dart throw on a wide receiver, Caldwell could be the perfect candidate.
