The New York Giants are being predicted to make a surprising choice in the NFL Draft.

Lately, we have heard three names routinely connected to the New York Giants with the No. 5 overall pick: Sonny Styles, Caleb Downs and Jeremiyah Love.

None of them fill glaring needs for the Giants, and none of them should be the selection for New York.

Period.

The Giants have some very obvious holes that needs to be addressed, specifically at cornerback, right guard, defensive tackle and wide receiver.

The former two positions are particularly thin for New York, which is why some feel the Giants could attempt to trade down in a couple of weeks.

Or maybe New York will stay put and still get its guy?

Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports recently put together a new mock draft, and with the fifth pick, he has the Giants nabbing LSU cornerback Mansoor Delane.

"Another surprise. I believe Mansoor Delane could be a top-five talent in this class," Dajani wrote. "He allowed the lowest passer rating (24.1) in the SEC, didn't allow a single touchdown in coverage and had zero penalties. I have questions about some of the biggest names in this class, but not Delane."

Delane is one of a handful of players I think Big Blue should absolutely be considering with its top draft choice, with the others being Tennessee cornerback Jermod McCoy, Penn State guard Olaivavega Ioane and Alabama tackle Kadyn Proctor (assuming Proctor would move inside).

In the case of McCoy, Ioane and Proctor, however, New York would probably be better served trading down to land one of them.

But Delane? His draft stock is rising as we inch closer and closer to April 23, so it stands to reason that he could be the pick at No. 5.

Right now, the Giants have Paulson Adebo and Greg Newsome II as their starting corners. Cor'Dale Flott departed via free agency, so at the moment, New York is in even worse shape than last year at the position.

This is why I absolutely cannot fathom the buzz that the Giants could take one of Styles, Downs or Love with their first-round draft choice. How can you select a player at a non-premium position when you have such a severe need at a vital one?

Delane is viewed by most as the top cornerback in this year's class, and while New York hasn't exactly had a whole lot of success drafting first-round corners in recent years, Delane should be the exception.
