The New York Giants have been connected to a move for a familiar face before the NFL trade deadline.
The New York Giants could definitely use some help in the trenches before the NFL trade deadline, and one familiar name has surfaced as a possibility for the team.
Defensive tackle A'Shawn Robinson.
ESPN's Matt Bowen and Jeremy Fowler have tabbed the Giants as a potential destination for Robinson, who is currently playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Bowen and Fowler gave Robinson a 30 percent change of being dealt, which actually seems low given the state of the Buccaneers right now (although I suppose they're not out of the NFC South equation).
Robinson spent the 2023 campaign in New York, finishing with 62 tackles while playing in all 17 games. He is now on his fifth NFL team, and while he certainly isn't a star, he has always been a solid contributor.
The 31-year-old is hitting free agency after the season, so he certainly wouldn't cost much in a trade. But would the Giants really want to give up another Day 3 pick for someone who really isn't an impact player?
New York has already traded its fourth, fifth and seventh-rounders this year. It has a sixth-rounder from the Jacksonville Jaguars remaining, but trading that selection for Robinson would probably be a bit much.
That's especially considering that sixth-round rookie Bobby Jamison-Travis showed promise last Sunday and might already bring more to the table than Robinson.
The Giants could always look to trade future picks, but as I've stated previously, does it make sense to part ways with future draft capital for a rental at this point?
New York is not a Super Bowl contender. Yes, the Giants could very well win the NFC East given the state of the division, but for as much as they've improved in 2026, they aren't ready to challenge for a championship yet.
That's why I wouldn't be so keen on surrendering even more draft assets for players who aren't going to help beyond this season.
At 6-foot-3, 320 pounds, Robinson could certainly help New York's ailing run defense, but again, Jamison-Travis stepped up and provided Big Blue with a significant lift in that department during the team's Week 7 win over the Houston Texans.
Adding some depth on the interior would absolutely be nice, but the Giants need to be careful with how they approach it.
We'll see what New York decides to do before Nov. 10. Hopefully, the G-Men keep the long view on mind.
