The New York Giants could be very active at the deadline this year.

The New York Giants are getting ready for their upcoming game against the Philadelphia Eagles this week, with the team sitting at 4-2-1 on the season.

This will be the final game before the NFL trade deadline, giving the Giants a chance to make a statement about why the front office should go out and be aggressive. Head coach John Harbaugh has brought stability to the organization, and it has played out well for this team on the field so far.

As the NFL trade deadline approaches next week, it seems that the Giants could be one of the more active teams, or at least they will try to be. New York attempted to land star defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons before he was traded to the Chicago Bears.

And now, NFL insider Jeremy Fowler of ESPN has reported that star defensive tackle Vita Vea of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is on the radar of the team. While Tampa Bay isn't expected to move the star defender, if New York were to offer them a massive deal, it could go down.

The Giants seem focused on adding to the trenches on defense, and with Harbaugh running the show, it makes sense. The veteran head coach understands how to build out football teams, starting with being extremely physical on the defensive lines.

While Vea may not be expected to move, if the Giants were able to land his services, it could make a massive difference to the team. Vea is among the better defensive tackles in the game, and he could help spark this defense even more.

So far this season, Vea has posted 16 total tackles, with one sack, and two pass deflections. Vea gets double-teamed quite often during games, but he still finds a way to make his presence known by pressuring the backfield.

Adding him to the Giants unit could give this team more firepower to work with, especially as the season starts to head into the second half. New York is fully looking to get into the playoffs, and addressing some of the concerns on the defensive side of the ball should help.

It remains to be seen if the Giants will be able to land a star like Vea at the upcoming trade deadline, but it's a good look for the organization that they are truing. New York has a real shot at the playoffs, and if they were to make the dance, anything can happen.
