Could the New York Giants actually trade for wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.?
The New York Giants have gotten off to a 3-1 start this season, and while their last two wins have come against easy opponents, the fact of the matter is that the Giants sit in first place in the NFC East.
What's more, New York has two very winnable games on its slate against the Washington Commanders and New Orleans Saints the next two weeks, and in Week 7, it will face the 0-4 Houston Texans, who I do feel are much better than their record indicates.
Regardless, there is a chance the Giants could be something like 5-2 heading into the bye week, and that could create an intriguing situation going into the NFL trade deadline.
One name in particular that has surfaced as a possibility for New York in that regard is someone the Giants just saw: Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.
Harrison was the only receiver selected before Malik Nabers in 2024, and the general expectation was that he was a can't-miss prospect.
That certainly hasn't been the case thus far.
Harrison's first two NFL seasons were littered with drops, and he also missed five games due to injuries in 2025.
This year, things have looked even worse for the Ohio State product, as he has logged just five catches for 85 yards and a touchdown through four weeks. His lone touchdown came against the Giants last Sunday, which represented his only reception of the game.
The Cardinals could potentially look to move Harrison, who has two years of club control remaining and, at this point, might not even get that 2028 fifth-year option exercised.
So let's say Arizona does decide to place Harrison on the trade block before Nov. 10. Should New York make a play for him?
Nabers is the Giants' No. 1 receiver, and he proved this past weekend that he is fully recovered from his ACL injury. Malachi Fields is emerging as the No. 2, while Darnell Mooney has been an ancillary option.
It's clear that the Giants could use some more depth at the position, but does a player who was just drafted fourth overall two-and-a-half years ago qualify as a depth option at this point?
You have to think the Cardinals would want something of significance in return for Harrison given his draft positioning. That doesn't mean they'll get a first-round pick, but I could see a team willing to surrender a Day 2 selection in exchange for him.
New York is thin on draft capital as it is. It just traded its fifth-round pick for J.J. McCarthy, and it also does not have fourth or seventh-rounders in 2027.
The one way I could see the Giants try to make a deal for Harrison is by potentially trading a future third-round pick for the 6-foot-3 pass-catcher, but then the question becomes whether or not New York would take such a gamble.
If Harrison pans out, he is obviously going to be worth a third-rounder and then some, but how often do we see wide receivers get off to miserable starts to their NFL careers and then suddenly develop into stars?
Let's also keep in mind that John Harbaugh has never been one to go for broke on receivers. He didn't do it in Baltimore, and he probably won't do it in New York.
A third-round pick for Harrison could make sense for the Giants. Whether or not Harbaugh would actually want to go that route, however, is another story.
