Giants Must Absolutely Steer Clear of This One Particular WR cover image

The New York Giants should avoid adding this wide receiver.

The New York Giants will almost certainly bring another wide receiver at some point this offseason, whether that's via free agency or the NFL Draft.

The prevailing thought is that the Giants will use the draft to pick up another weapon, although there is always the chance they double dip, particularly if Wan'Dale Robinson decides to sign elsewhere.

Luckily for New York, this upcoming draft class is rife with wide receiver talent, so the Giants may very well use their No. 5 overall pick on one.

However, there is one wide out New York should absolutely avoid in the first round this April: Arizona State standout Jordyn Tyson.

Tyson is a good player and I think he will end up developing into a solid NFL receiver. He has a high floor. But I question his ceiling.

The 21-year-old doesn't excel in any one particular area. He doesn't have elite speed. His size is good; not great. He also has displayed iffy hands in the past.

On top of all of that, Tyson has a very extensive injury history.

Throughout his collegiate career, he has suffered a torn ACL, PCL and MCL, a hamstring injury and a collarbone injury. That is a whole lot of missed time for a receiver that is supposed to be a top-level NFL prospect.

Tyson played just 33 games over four seasons between Colorado and Arizona State, and while he was certainly productive during his time on the field, there was never a time where he truly looked like a can't-miss talent.

The same cannot be said for fellow receivers like Carnell Tate and Denzel Boston, both of whom, in my opinion, have higher ceilings than Boston and are more explosive talents overall.

We know the Giants need to get some more playmakers for Jaxson Dart, but I just don't think Tyson is the answer here.

Tate would be a terrific pick, and if New York is interested in trading down, it could nab Boston a bit later in the first round (unless his stock surges during the Scouting Combine, which is a realistic possibility).

Tyson would be a solid get for a team that is already established and has formed a clear offensive identity. The Giants aren't quite there yet, which is why they should pass on the risky Tyson in Round 1 this spring.
