The New York Giants signed a new player on Monday, making their NFL Draft intentions pretty clear.

The New York Giants have certainly been active this offseason, addressing some pretty key needs on both sides of the ball.

However, with the NFL Draft looming, some obvious holes remain.

The Giants have issues at defensive tackle, cornerback, guard and wide receiver, and some were wondering if New York could potentially add some more veterans to repair the issues prior to the draft.

More specifically, both Calais Campbell and DJ Reader have been available in free agency to fill Big Blue's need at defensive tackle, but on Monday, the Giants made a move that proved they are probably looking toward the draft to plug that hole.

New York has announced that it has signed former Atlanta Falcons defensive lineman Sam Roberts, an ancillary move that could help the Giants form some depth on the interior.

With the G-Men having such limited cap room remaining, the chances of them landing one of Campbell or Reader were probably slim, hence the reason New York pivoted to a much cheaper option.

Roberts logged 18 tackles and a sack in five games with the Falcons last season. The 27-year-old was a sixth-round pick of the New England Patriots in 2022 and spent two years there. He also joined the Carolina Panthers for one season in 2024.

Overall, the Northwest Missouri State product has accumulated 26 tackles throughout his NFL tenure.

Based on New York's decision to make such a low-tier signing at defensive tackle, it seems pretty clear that the Giants will be targeting one in the draft next month.

This upcoming draft class is pretty deep at the defensive tackle position, and while New York may not spend a first-round pick on an interior defender, it could very well select one at No. 37 in the second round.

Peter Woods, Caleb Banks, Kayden McDonald and Lee Hunter are all generally viewed as the top defensive tackles in this group. Darrell Jackson, Christen Miller and Domonique Orange are all intriguing candidates, as well.

The Giants definitely need to add another body alongside of Dexter Lawrence to help New York's run defense, which ranked toward the bottom of the league in 2025.

It would be very surprising if John Harbaugh didn't attempt to rectify the problem in about four weeks.
