The New York Giants have spent plenty of resources to build the defensive line into a unit that can terrorize opponent.

That is the hope heading into the 2025 season and the opposing teams on the schedule are on notice.

The Giants are preparing to take on the Washington Commanders on Sunday. Head coach Dan Quinn highlighted the defensive line when breaking down the matchup and had plenty of good things to say.

“A lot, and I think the speed, I really am impressed by that. I like the action, I like their investment into that group," Quinn said during his media appearance on Thursday.

The Giants drafted Abdul Carter with the third-overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. He joins former first-round selections Kayvon Thibodeaux and Dexter Lawrence, who is one of the top interior linemen in the league.

New York made a deal to acquire Brian Burns from the Carolina Panthers last year before giving him a five-year, $141 million contract. Despite the firepower up front, the Giants opted to take the best player available in Carter and beef up the line even more.

"They've got [New York Giants DT] Dexter [Lawrence] who's got great size and power, and they got speed out on the edges," Quinn said. "So, I think probably the combination of the two is what I like about them. When you have three jets that you can use in different spots, you can try to create matchups to do that. And so, I sense that's where they're headed, but it's a really strong group.”

A strong push up front will look to get the better of an improved offensive line for the Commanders, which now includes Laremy Tunsil at left tackle. It will also be important to get a pass rush and throw Washington off its game plan while keeping Jayden Daniels contained in the pocket.

That is easier said than done but if there is a front that can do it, the Giants are high on the list. Based on Quinn's comments, Washington will be ready for the attack and this makes for an entertaining battle in the trenches.
