Why do we keep hearing suggestions that the New York Giants should trade quarterback Jaxson Dart?
The New York Giants are just 2-13 on the season, but they now finally have life for their future thanks to quarterback Jaxson Dart.
Dart has taken the Big Apple by storm in 2025, establishing himself as someone who appears to be the answer under center for the Giants.
And yet, there are some who still feel New York could move on from him if it lands the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft.
We already heard Colin Cowherd suggest that the Giants could draft Fernando Mendoza and trade Dart. Now, Evan Roberts and Tiki Barber of WFAN have tossed around the possibility of Big Blue actually making a switch at signal-caller.
Now, for context, Roberts and Barber — who host a radio show — weren't actively advocating for the Giants to trade Dart. They were only floating the possibility of New York jettisoning the former first-round pick in the event that the new head coach and potential new general manager (if Joe Schoen loses his job) decide they want to move in a different direction.
But why would a new regime want to move on from Dart, who has displayed incredible promise throughout the entirety of the campaign?

Dart has already been in concussion protocol five times this season — six including preseason — and missed two games with a concussion in 2025. But the right head coach will find a way to protect Dart.
Quarterback is one of the primary areas in which the Giants aren't hurting at the moment. There is no reason to hit the reset button again, especially with New York having so many other needs up and down the roster.
As I have preached tirelessly over the last month-plus, the best avenue for the G-Men will be trading down from the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft and landing a bunch of draft capital to address the other needs.
Trading Dart would be entirely counterproductive at this stage and would cause the Giants to take another step back.
People need to keep in mind how competitive New York has been in most of its losses this season. This team is not nearly as far away as its record may indicate.
It simply needs some more firepower, but that does not consist of dumping Dart in favor of Mendoza.
