The New York Giants' interest in Odell Beckham Jr. is indicative of one thing.

Even after the New York Giants signed Darnell Mooney and Calvin Austin III in free agency and selected Malachi Fields in the NFL Draft, they are evidently still in the market for wide receivers.

More specifically, they are considering reuniting with Odell Beckham Jr.

Beckham spent the first five years of his career with the Giants between 2014 and 2018, establishing himself as one of the most dynamic weapons in football before being traded to the Cleveland Browns. He has posted just one 1,000-yard season since.

In fact, the 33-year-old did not play at all in 2025 and was last seen logging nine catches in nine games for the Miami Dolphins two years ago.

Nevertheless, John Harbaugh — who coached Beckham in Baltimore in 2023 — is interested in adding the three-time Pro Bowler, stating that he feels Beckham could make a difference for New York.

Considering the Giants' receiving corps already consists of Malik Nabers, Mooney, Austin, Fields and Darius Slayton, New York's interest in Beckham is a bit odd.

We know Nabers (assuming he is healthy) will be the No. 1. Austin figures to slide into the slot role while Mooney, Fields and Slayton will compete for touches on the outside.

Where would that leave Beckham?

Well, it's entirely possible that Harbaugh is not entirely confident in Slayton, who just underwent core muscle surgery and will miss considerable time. He is expected to be ready for training camp, but he is coming off of an awful 2025 campaign and now has a pretty serious procedure from which to recover.

Or maybe Harbaugh isn't all too sure about Mooney or Austin, but he is the one who pushed to sign both receivers in free agency. So it seems somewhat hard to imagine that he is already looking to replace one of those two.

This seems like it's more about Slayton, who had a big issue with drops last season and was never able to develop a consistent rapport with Jaxson Dart.

But is Beckham really the answer? He hasn't been a true factor since 2023, and even then, he managed just 35 grabs for 565 yards and three touchdowns with the Ravens.

His last 1,000-yard showing came back in 2019, and since then, he has achieved 500 receiving yards just twice.

I'm not sure Beckham can actually comprise a difference maker at this point of his career, but Harbaugh's persistent interest in the veteran is a pretty good indicator that there isn't a ton of confidence in Slayton right about now.
