The New York Giants are releasing running back Najee Harris.
After the New York Giants lost to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, Najee Harris expressed frustration with the team's running back-by-committee approach.
Two days later, he's gone.
The Giants have released Harris a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Harris put up 99 rushing yards with the Giants, who are 3-2-1.
Here is what Harris said after the Giants lost to the Saints at home:
"It's hard to get into a rhythm with one or two runs. The first couple runs you'll be like: 'OK, how are they playing me?' And then the next ones will be like: This is how you attack it. But if you're getting a play here and you get taken out for a series, there's nothing you can do. That's why I'm saying I don't know. I've never been through this before."
Cam Skattebo, who began the season as the team's top running back, has seen his workload reduced after fumbling four times. He did not have a single carry against the Saints.
Harris, 28, is in his sixth year in the NFL after being selected in the first round of the 2021 draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. After four years there, he signed with the Los Angeles Chargers but suffered a torn Achilles. Harris signed with the Giants this offseason, but he's done in New York after just five games.
A one-time Pro Bowler with the Steelers, Harris has 4,472 rushing yards and 28 rushing touchdowns in the NFL. It will be interesting to see if he lands with another team after getting released by the Giants.
New York faces the Houston Texans this week. It's unknown who will start at quarterback, as Jameis Winston was benched for J.J. McCarthy against the Saints after throwing his second interception.
McCarthy put up good numbers after taking over for Winston. The former Minnesota Vikings QB had 243 passing yards and one touchdown pass on 21 attempts. He was picked off once, but McCarthy led the Giants to three scoring drives.
Winston has seven passing touchdowns and five interceptions this season. The Giants lost Jaxson Dart for the season after the Ole Miss product got hurt in Week 2 against the Los Angeles Rams. Dart had 250 passing yards, three passing touchdowns and 54 rushing yards before getting injured.
Dart finished his rookie season with 2,272 passing yards, 15 passing touchdowns, five interceptions, 487 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns. He completed 63.7% of his passes and went 4-8 as a starter after taking over for Russell Wilson.
